Funding and Subsidies
Primary

We provide financial support to state-funded schools and colleges throughout the North East and Northumberland, including subsidies to help cover supply costs for professional development and curriculum delivery. We offer a £205 subsidy towards supply cover for teachers attending computing CPD, allowing those on a primary CPD certification pathway to enhance their knowledge and skills without disrupting pupils' lessons. This support is available to state-funded priority schools in England, specifically those located within Education Investment Areas (EIAs). Each school can claim this subsidy for one teacher per academic year to attend either a face-to-face or live remote CPD course.
Secondary

We provide subsidies for two days of supply cover (£205 per day) to enable teachers to attend KS3 and GCSE Computer Science subject knowledge certification CPD. This allows teachers to strengthen their subject knowledge and skills without impacting students' lessons. This support is available to state-funded secondary schools and colleges in England.
Helping Schools Introduce GCSE Computer Science
We provide subsidies and fully funded consultancy from subject matter experts to state-funded secondary schools and colleges in England that commit to offering GCSE Computer Science within two academic years. Schools that have previously received funding for this purpose are not eligible for these subsidies.
This incentive assists schools with the costs of establishing the subject, including building teachers' knowledge and confidence and supporting student learning. It offers:

-
GCSE Computer Science textbooks (up to £600) to enhance student achievement and prepare them for the course
-
Professional support from the Computing Hubs network and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to help schools create an action plan for delivering GCSE Computer Science
-
A teacher release subsidy for three days (worth up to £615) to cover teachers attending CPD courses and collaborating with SMEs
-
Additional subsidies (up to £300) to promote the subject among students through homework clubs, option booklets, marketing materials, career fairs, and more.
Computing Clusters

Collaborations that extend beyond individual schools are essential for achieving an exceptional standard in computing education. Computing clusters provide a platform for teachers, subject leaders, and school leadership teams to work collaboratively towards a common goal, supporting the NCCE’s vision of delivering high-quality computing education for all young people.
Through this programme, clusters of 3-8 schools will receive targeted funding and support for professional development over a 12-month period, helping them progress within the Computing Quality Framework. Participating schools will:
-
Enhance teachers' subject knowledge and pedagogical skills
-
Work towards earning a Computing Quality Mark
-
Collaborate with other schools in the cluster to share insights and expertise
Each cluster is supported by a specialist Advisor and benefits from a structured programme that includes collaborative workgroups, coaching and mentoring, tailored interventions, and facilitated drop-in sessions. Teachers involved will develop the skills needed to provide ongoing support to other teachers within the cluster.
